Nature is not charity.
Nature is capital.

In December 2022, nearly 200 countries adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework — a historic breakthrough comparable to the Paris Agreement, but for nature.

The headline goal: protect 30% of the planet by 2030 — on land and at sea. By 2050, all degraded ecosystems should be restored.

What are Nature Credits? Nature Credits are an emerging financial instrument — certified units representing a measurable improvement in ecosystems. Similar to carbon credits, but for nature: biodiversity, water quality, intact habitats. The EU Commission published its Roadmap towards Nature Credits in July 2025. The concrete standards are being defined over the coming years.

Why now? For the first time, three things come together: political mandate, legal obligation through the EU Nature Restoration Law, and an emerging certification framework. Companies that act today understand the topic before it becomes mandatory — and help shape the standards.

Charlotte Noltenius — Economist & Founder

I believe companies are one of the decisive forces in the fight against biodiversity loss. Not as a side topic — but as economic actors with real leverage.

As an economist with nearly ten years of experience in sustainability consulting, strategy and transformation, I work at the intersection of NGOs, conservation projects and companies. I translate ecological complexity into economically actionable steps — and build bridges between worlds that rarely speak to each other.

30 by 30 is my third venture — following my time as co-founder of Planet Now. The next generation of conservation investment is emerging. I'm in.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 30 by 30 mean?

30 by 30 refers to the global goal of protecting 30 percent of the Earth and oceans by 2030. It stems from the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted in 2022 — the most significant international biodiversity agreement in decades.

What are Nature Credits?

Nature Credits are certified, tradeable units representing a measurable improvement of ecosystems and biodiversity — similar to carbon credits, but for nature. The EU Commission published a Roadmap towards Nature Credits in July 2025. A full certification framework is expected by 2027.

Does my company need to report on biodiversity today?

Under the revised CSRD Omnibus reform (2025), companies with more than 1,000 employees and over €450m in revenue are directly subject to mandatory reporting — first required in 2028 for the 2027 financial year. Smaller companies are indirectly affected: large customers, investors and banks increasingly request biodiversity data along the supply chain. The TNFD LEAP approach provides a recognised framework for analysis.

What is a Discovery Workshop?

The Discovery Workshop is our entry-level format: a half-day structured session in which we jointly analyse where your company depends on natural systems and where it leaves an impact — following the TNFD LEAP approach. The result is a first risk matrix and concrete recommendations. For pricing, please reach out directly: hello@30by30.de

How are conservation projects selected for the database?

Our project database exclusively includes projects that have already undergone an independent governmental or scientific assessment. We additionally evaluate each project against our own impact framework across three dimensions: ecosystem type, primary impact, and reporting suitability.
